The exact spot was originally a roadway and the tramways office was just a few yards away, with shelters attached to it all the way round. See archive photo.

The shelter is identical in style to the longer one in Hyde, which the Tameside Image Archive caption as a "Victorian Style Tram Shelter". If the shelter is a genuine Victorian one then it would seem to have been moved from somewhere else, which would have upset people.

Looking forward to hearing from anyone who knows for sure.Martin (Ashton-under-Lyne)http://ashton-under-lyne.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3488915945983500085.post-38750567933589081052009-12-08T08:58:03.494+00:002009-12-08T08:58:03.494+00:00So profound as Christmas approaches! So profound as Christmas approaches!mrsnesbitthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16882736507772457598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3488915945983500085.post-82687199127482809162009-12-08T07:44:42.235+00:002009-12-08T07:44:42.235+00:00Surely the shelter was originally a tram stop, was...Surely the shelter was originally a tram stop, was it not?Gerald (SK14)https://www.blogger.com/profile/18308693910074268386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3488915945983500085.post-54262158900091315402009-12-08T00:58:38.346+00:002009-12-08T00:58:38.346+00:00Interesting night shot...Interesting night shot...Catherinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06255193476024745869noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3488915945983500085.post-26620996573212265892009-12-08T00:34:54.689+00:002009-12-08T00:34:54.689+00:00Great shot as always!
