Looking a little like a Constable painting, this autumn scene shows the Hollinwood Canal in Daisy Nook, between Ashton and Failsworth.
This was Waterhouses Junction, where the Fairbottom Branch led off towards Bardsley. To the left the canal leads to Crime Lake. To the right was a flight of four locks which took the canal down to the lower level to cross the aqueduct.

We visit Daisynook all the time as we go for walks there with the dog very often. The colours are amazing at this time of year and the wildlife is just as good.
ReplyDeleteMention of the Hollinwood Canal reminds me that the greatest swimming GB Olympian Henry Taylor learned to swim in there. He won 3 Gold Medals at the 1908 games.

Fab photo, Martin. It is just like a painting. I spent many happy hours wandering along the Fairbottom link from Riversvale to Fairbottom or the other way towards Daisy Nook.
