Stalybridge Saturday: Canalside Apartments
These newly-built apartments are alongside the canal behind Knowl Street, overlooking Lock 7 on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and Mottram Road bridge.
Compare and contrast with Wednesday's photo of apartments overlooking the canal in Ashton. Those who have been away from England for a few years may be surprised that the canal is now the place to be! It has attracted a lot of development along through Ashton, Stalybridge and Mossley.

When I were a lad in t'old days this canal was all filled in and had been built over and so on.
ReplyDeleteIt's a testament to the perseverence of the canal enthusiasts that today one can can have a lovely apartment overlooking the water.
I remember the work being done in 2000 in Armentieres Square. I'll dig up my picture and post it.
hi have they pulled the houses that were on huddersfield road ? it looks well have they altered knowl street any ?
ReplyDeleteNo, Greeny. The houses on Huddersfield Road are still there, although the buildings on the corner at the bottom were pulled down a while ago for road widening.
ReplyDeleteIf you compare the Google and Live aerial views you can see that the new apartments replace a factory and a car scrap yard, with no houses on Knowl Street lost.
