Mossley on Monday: Something Strange on the Skyline

People passing through Mossley at the moment may get a small surprise as they spot something odd on the skyline. The spire of St John's Church, Roughtown, is currently undergoing repair work and is cloaked in scaffolding. As the church is situated on a very prominent position on the corner of the hill overlooking Mossley and Greenfield, it can be seen from some distance away. It previously appeared on this blog in a wintry photograph.

  1. Fascinating photograph! Beautiful area. I admire the spire though it appears on fire...but maybe that's only the sun!

  2. They are probably strengthening it up to put a wind turbine on - knowing Tameside planning - it would get the go-ahead.

  3. this is a small part of the view from my house. my house has just been done up to a high standard, it is over a hundred years old and has five bedrooms and two bathrooms, i will be selling very shortly.

  4. Oh, I wondered whose house I was in!

  5. martin c. my view is obviously superior to this as my house is on four levels. please dont be cute, thanks for uploading

  6. I'm sorry - am I not allowed to use humour on my own blog? I'll be "cute" if I want, thank you!

  7. just an idea, are you interested in helping me sell my house? your obviously more computer savy than me, you must have a digital camera, and you obviously have a lot of spare time on your hands.

  8. It would be nice if I did have a lot of spare time on my hands.

  9. me again, i know most people in mossley are you an incomer, are you martin from scunthorp?
