Ashton has had a market since 1284. it was originally located around the Old Cross where St Michael's Square now stands. The market has been in its present location since 1829.
The market ground is open for business six days a week, plus a Farmers' Market every fourth Sunday.

Perhaps some of you would have liked to see an image of some of our nearby pleasant rural scenery but what better subject for a postcard from Ashton than the Market which is at its heart?
yes very postcardy - I was there this morning - had a tea and toasted teacake just yards from this very spot before shopping in the market.
ReplyDeleteI do love Farmers Markets and this looks like a great one -- and quite a history, too! Terrific capture for the day! Have a great week!

Definitely a postcard-worthy picture of your world! I'd love to visit that market some day, and my husband would enjoy it even more.

I really love markets that have been established for a long time. A pity there is not a farmers' market every week though. We so enjoy ours.
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT! i attempted to make this once...with utter failure. i shall try once again, just because of your post. :)
