Alphabet Friday - Kings Road


K is for Kings Road and today's photograph shows Kings Road between St John's Church and Hurst Cross.

On the left, the Church Inn was to let at the time the photo was taken. On the other side of Rowley Street is Higher Hurst Post Office, with the Co-op at the other end of the block.

  1. that post office takes me back to when i was a youngster ,my mother sent me for a pillow box red dye from one of the shops and messing about on the way as kids do ,i forgot the name of the colour she wanted i stood in the shop for a while then said ,i think its called post office red ,the woman serving knew then what i wanted.....,well i wasnt far out was i ,,

  2. i knew this area like the back of my hand ,after the post office was a couple of houses ,then joe hollinworths barbers .then wilds pie shop .next. kilners grocers ,then co.op butchers .then the co.op that sold clothes ,the end going round the corner were may baileys fruit shop later hasties fruit shop ,the building with the pointed roof was townsends grocers ,it faced the royal oak pub.

  3. I LIVED AT 44 KENWORTHY AVE AS A CHILD, AND MY GRANDAD HARRY ROBINSON LIVED AT 25 CONNORY CRES WITH MY GRANDMOTHER JANET ROBINSON.
    GRANDAD USED TO WALLK UP TO THIS PUB FOR A 'GILL',
    AND I WENT WITH HIM AND MY GRANDMOTHER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AS A SMALL BOY.
    I NOW LIVE IN AUSTRALIA, AND I CAN SAFELY SAY THAT I CANNOT FIND ANYTHING TO SOOTH MY CHILDHOOD CRAVINGS FOR A GLASS OF DANDELION BURDOCK AND A MEAT AND POTATO PIE, YUM YUM........
