Bow Street

Bow Streets runs alongside Ashton's Open Market from Warrington Street to Market Street. In the distance is the restored Market Hall. On the right is the Iceland store which at one time was a Tesco Home and Wear. Next to that is Oliver's Bar, at one time the Cavern.

At one time the trolleybuses from Manchester to Stalybridge stopped in Bow Street. Now it is part of Ashton's pedestrianised zone.

  1. The vile modern 'architecture' in this photo clashes horribly with the more traditional style of the market hall.

  2. Yes, it's completely unimaginative and typical of the late 1960's early 1970's.
    Absolutely horrible.

  3. Used to catch trolley buses to Manchester or Denton from here in the 50's. Stalybridge buses further up by side of Market Hall. In the 60's buses from Manchester to Stalybridge ran straight up Old St passing the War Memorial, the return journey down Stamford St. Not an inspiring sight now.
