Monochrome Moment: Henry Square

(Click photo for larger version. Press Back button to return here.)

This week's Monochrome Moment shows various ages of building around Chester Square at the western end of Ashton's Stamford Street.

The modern building is part of the St Petersfield re-development. To the left of that is the old Friendship inn, awaiting a new use. In the background is Bentinck House, one of Ashton's 1960s tower blocks.

See Birds Eye View of this location.

  4. That's a modern building that I liked instantly - and that's unusual for me! Nicely composed.

  7. I loathe the new Pennine Trust buildings. It's funny that that the St Peters regeneration project has amounted to nothing more than a Lidle 'supermarket', a building for the Pennine Trust and a privatised arm of the benefits agency. Oh, and an insultingly pathetic 'memorial' to the those that died or were injured and were made homeless in the Ashton Munitions Explosion

How very different from the planning proposals and the publicity pictures that were used to appease the locals. What happened to the vibrant 'community' digital mock-ups of people bustling around coffee houses, new businesses, fountains.

The only good thing that has happened is that gentrification has so far failed to materialise due to the falling-through of most of the yuppie flat complexes.
