Goose Lake

Not "Swan Lake" but more like "Goose Lake" as the only things to be seen moving on the Stamford Park Boating Lake are dozens of Canada Geese.
The boathouse is open for business, but there are no takers, even on a bright and sunny day.

  1. My grandsons like coming here feeding the ducks, there are usually lots of children around on a sunny day .

  2. Many, very happy, family weekends were spent here when I was smaller.
Later, when I was older, Alan Parkinson & I would try our hand at fishing further up. I distinctly remember that one lad, decked out with the latest kit in rods wasn't having too good a day but Alan pointed out that further up a lad with a bamboo stick and a bit of line was happily reeling them in!

Excellent picture from an interesting angle.

  3. Can someone please remind me of the name of the pleasure boat that went around the park lake? I remember using the rowing boats but can't remember the name of the pleasure boat.

  5. When we lived in Oldham we used to come down to Stamford Park Lake about once a week or so and row three times round the island - once I managed to row four times round the islands but it was hard going to do that within the half-hour.

Re Capt. Ahab's comment, the pleasure boat was Sunflower 11, and rumour had it that the original Sunflower was sunk at Dunkirk.
