Hartshead Pike

Hartshead Pike bathed in late evening sunshine on Monday evening.
The photo is exactly as it came out of the camera and is not enhanced or manipulated in any way. It had been a fairly dull evening up up until then, with a few spots of rain, but then, at around 9 o'clock, the clouds shifted and the sun appeared, low in the sky over Winter Hill, casting an eerie and almost magical light.

  5. I'm glad you like it! I had another photo planned for today, but I just had to share this one with you instead! I will show another later in the week, as well.

I felt the need for a walk last night and ended up at the Pike (as you do). I took some photos and admired the view then set off. When I got to the old Colliers, I stopped to take a photo looking back and saw that the light had completely changed, so I ran back up in case the sunlight went before I got there!

June, you might find that the version here is too small for desktop wallpaper, so I have made a larger version, and added a link to the post. I am planning to have a selection of images suitable for desktop wallpaper on the main site before long.

  6. Thanks Martin. Quite a number of your photographs find their way onto my desktop but this one is really lovely and will probably stay for quite a while!

  7. I just have to say Thank You for this site; I am a native of Ashton but moved away some years ago and now live in Texas. I miss Ashton a great deal and look forward to going back someday and seeing all the changes.

This picture has bitter sweet memories for me, I love the pike, just an awesome place but I attended Heartshead High School at the bottom of the hill and during our cross country running section of PE guess where we ran (well walked in my case) yes the pike. My legs are beginning to hurt just thinking about it

Again thank you for this site
