Down The Line

October's Theme Day is "Lines" and so the photograph today shows the railway lines that pass through the southern fringes of Ashton, between Stalybridge and Guide Bridge stations.

The train in the photo is the Trans Pennine Express that departed from Middlesborough at 9.00 am and travelled by way of York, Leeds and Huddersfield. It is heading for Manchester Piccadilly station and Manchester Airport. Sadly, the train does not pass through Ashton under Lyne station.

The photo is taken from Granville Street, Cockbrook, which was also the scene of this photo.

See Google Aerial View of this location.

  1. Good photo choice and good use of depth in your photo ... Railroad lines are always interesting photo subjects ... Maybe because they offer the possibility of travel.

  8. So lovely to see the place where the old Gardener's Arms was on Taunton Road, as my family and I lived, and ran the place back in the late 1940s-50s. It had a bowling green and lawn tennis courts at the rear plus a youth boxing club.. I worked in the office at the Texas Mill, and spent happy hours at The Palais de dance, and the old Market, before leaving to take another inn, in Cheshire, with my family.
