Prospect Place, Hurst, and Swift Street, which runs across the end, are two of the "dirt roads" that can still be found in Ashton. These are streets that have not been "adopted" by the local council and so no road surface has been provided.
Sometimes residents are happy for things to stay this way, as it discourages cars from taking short cuts through, but I imagine it can lead to muddy footprints on the carpet when there has been a lot of rain!

It may come as a surprise to some but there are sections of the City of Los Angeles that are unadopted.
ReplyDeleteNo sidewalks, no street lighting, though the roads are paved.
I think Langham Street off Oldham Rd Waterloo is also still an 'unadopted road'.
