Clarence Arcade

At one time a prestigious shopping arcade, off Stamford Street, the whole building that houses Clarence Arcade has undergone refurbishment. While the building itself looks well, it is a pity that the entrance to Arcade is now a closed gate, even in the middle of the day.

Get yer mum to give you a lift, the nearest bus stop is over half a mile away

  4. My sister attended the Ashton School of Dancing for many years when most buses went down stamford street and when I visited the arcade in 2000, there were lessons still being taught. I could hear the music and instruction through the open door.

  5. Of two pictures that were corrupted on my SM card, the picture inside Clarence arcade was one of them.

  6. Is this the one near Comet where the pervy guy who sold comics had his shop?

  7. I didn't try the other entrance. That one looked uninviting enough. Anyway I didn't look for the ballet classes as I don't think they'd let me join.

The bus station is only a quarter of a mile away and there are plenty of bus stops there!

Thats a quarter of a mile there and a quarter of a mile back - and walking it in your TuTu is not recommended.

  9. I used to love running through the Arcade and shouting as the high ceilings made your voice all echoey. It was probably because of noisy kids like me that they locked the gates. Was the Ashton School of Dancing formerly the Noreen Dickinson School?
