Proper Shop

Now this, to me, is what a shop on Stamford Street should look like! The carefully painted woodwork on the shop front along with the well-arranged window displays in what are very traditional shop windows gives a tantalising glimpse of how all of Stamford Street might have looked had it remained prosperous.

  1. Great photograph. The shop belongs to my nephew and his wife. I haven't seen them for ages!!

  2. Absolutely agree - hope it prospers and remains

Shame about tha A board. Roy Oldham puts them down to the "Popularity" of shopping in Ashton. I think they are a eysore as well as not being legal.

  4. The Saks hairdressing franchise next door has also been there over 25 years to my knowledge.

  5. Who had the store on the late 60's early 1970's?
I remember is as a clothing store

  6. I agree. We have an ironmongers here with similar frontage which I have been trying to get a clear vantage point to view from for ages. It also has very old fashioned, courteous staff too. Now that is a novelty these days.

  7. The shop used to be Henry J Howard, Ladies Outfitters and Corsetieres
