No Ball Games

July's theme day is about prohibitive signs.

"No Ball Games" proclaims the unfriendly notice above the doors of numbers 5 and 7 Trafalgar Square in Ashton's West End.

These houses form part of the splendid Victorian brick terrace known as "The Twelve Apostles".

The busy location alongside Stockport Road seems an unlikely place for anyone to want to play ball games!

    1. Do you remember the petrol filling station that was there?

  2. When I was a young man living at home in Ashton, I remember the Twelve Apostles as being a rather run-down collection of flats and bedsits. It was not a good place to live. However, in this photo they seem to have been 'done up' a little. The terrace is a very fine Victorian set of houses, looks like a desirable place to live now!

  3. The flats have been refurbished at least twice - they have in recent year always housed those on the bottom rung of the ladder - along with those on Gibson Terrace.
As "No Ball Games" signs are not worth the board they are written only the housing associations deem it fit to fix them

  4. Hi from Ohio,

The bees are back in Brookville, Ohio. I hope for the rest of the year at least. I even got one on my Better Blog Writing post today. LOL

I see you found an suitable No sign.

Isn't it almost funny to think of adult people scurrying around their communities taking pictures of signs. And if somebody had asked what that is all about and you said a sign with "no" on it, they might... well. It is kind of funny.

  5. Some people on this planet, believe it or not, are just mean spirited and don't like you to do anything anywhere!!

Good choice! And damn good eyes for spotting it.

  6. I bet this sign is from years ago.It used to be much more residential around there.I lived in a victorian house on Victoria Street as a child. We loved it and only moved when the council decided to flatten all the houses and build 'better' modern ones!
My doctors was in that row of terraces you showed.

  7. Maybe in the old days they used to bounce balls off the building? Must have been some old curmedgeon:)

  8. It's so high up on the building, does anyone even bother to notice?

    Good sign. Happy Theme Day!
